Due to the nature of our human saliva it can have a problematic effect on your instruement in time. A good swab helps to remove much of the saliva that can have a corrosive effect on the saxophone laquer, metal, cork, pads etc

A good quick swab use after a playing session can extend the life of your horn, and perhaps help with pad survival too.
